Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the world had not seen a malady like Covid-19 in a century. He, however, added that research into the infectious disease was helping in formulation of the strategy to fight it.
The PM was speaking at Vesak Global Celebrations on the occasion of Buddha Purnima through video-conferencing. Prime Ministers of Nepal and Sri Lanka, Culture Minister of Mongolia, Foreign Minister of Bhutan, Union Ministers Prahlad Singh Patel and Kiren Rijiju and secretary general of International Buddhist Confederation Dhammapiya also took part in the virtual event.
The PM said vaccine was absolutely important to save lives and defeat Covid. He lauded the efforts of the scientists for developing the vaccines within a year and said this showed the power of human determination. "Our planet will not be the same after Covid-19, we will remember events in the future as either pre or post-Covid," the PM said. The PM said while fighting Covid-19, one must not lose sight of the other challenges like climate change. — TNS
