Will study new rules on social media: Facebook

The Facebook on Friday said it would carefully study the new social media regulations notified by the government adding that the company has always welcomed regulations and guidelines that seek to address challenges on the Internet.

A day after the government published amended rules governing intermediaries in India apart from over the top platforms and digital news media, a Facebook spokesperson said the company was India's ally and the agenda for internet user safety was important.

"We have always been clear that we welcome regulations that set guidelines for addressing today's toughest challenges on the Internet. The details of rules like these matter and we will carefully study the new rules that were just published. We acknowledge and appreciate the recognition from the minister on the positive contributions of social media to the country," a spokesperson for the US-based digital behemoth said today.
