New Delhi, September 30
The body of 19-year-old Hathras gang-rape victim was cremated early Wednesday with family members alleging they were forced by the police to hurriedly conduct the last rites.
"The cremation was done at 3 am," her father said, a day after his daughter succumbed to critical injuries. She was allegedly gang-raped and tortured by four men.
The victim's brother alleged: "The police forcibly took my father for cremation as soon as he reached Hathras from Delhi." Denying the charge, Hathras Joint Magistrate PP Meena said the final rites were carried out as per the procedure and with the permission of the family. PM Narendra Modi spoke to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and asked him to ensure strictest possible action against the culprits. Uttar Pradesh has set up an SIT to probe the case. It will submit its report in seven days. — TNS
