New Delhi, September 3
With complaints pouring in that police in several parts of the country have been imposing fine for not wearing masks even while driving alone in cars, the government today clarified that it has not issued any directions asking people to wear masks in such situations.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said the ministry had not issued any directions asking people to wear masks even while driving a car alone. He, however, went on to add that while it was important to wear masks when cycling and jogging in groups, the ministry had not issued any guidelines mandating the use of masks if someone was cycling alone.
Bhushan said the number of recovered Covid cases had reached 29.70 lakh, which was 3.5 times more than active cases in the country. "In 24 hours, over 11 lakh tests were conducted," he said. — TNS
