New Delhi, July 24
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asked the states and the Union Territories (UTs) to invite Covid-19 warriors and those who have been cured of the infection as special guests at the official functions to mark Independence Day this year, but there shouldn't be any large gatherings at the events.
In a letter to all chief secretaries of the states and UTs, the MHA said, "This year also, Independence Day will be celebrated in a manner befitting the occasion. However, in view of spread of Covid-19, while organising various programmes or activities, it is imperative to follow certain preventive measures."
The MHA further said such measures would include "maintaining social distancing, wearing of masks, proper santisation, avoiding large congregations and protecting vulnerable persons". It has also asked the organisers of the events to follow all other norms which have been specified by "the MHA and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare".
The MHA asked the organisers to arrange webcasting of the events so that "those who are not able to participate" could have a chance to witness the event.
