Jaipur/New Delhi, July 29
The deadlock over convening the Rajasthan Assembly ended today with Governor Kalraj Mishra agreeing to call a session from August 14. This came hours after the Ashok Gehlot Cabinet sent a fourth proposal to the Governor for summoning the session on August 14. This met the 21-day notice requirement on which the Governor was insisting, it said. The government had earlier asked for a July 31 session.
The Governor had turned down three earlier proposals, saying the government should state that it planned to hold a vote of confidence if it wanted the House summoned at short notice. Meanwhile, the Speaker has filed a fresh plea in the SC challenging the HC's July 24 order asking him to maintain status quo on the disqualification proceedings against 19 rebel Congress MLAs. — TNS amp; PTI
